Garages compete on price and speed at the same time

MOT and servicing customers are unusually price-transparent compared to most trades: they'll happily compare three garages by phone or online in a few minutes, because the job itself is standardised and the price is easy to quote. A site that hides its MOT price or makes booking difficult loses that comparison before the car's even been looked at.

Diagnostic and repair work is the opposite: highly variable, harder to price upfront, and won mostly on trust that the diagnosis is honest rather than upsold. A garage that only sells on price for the standardised jobs and never builds trust for the harder ones is leaving the more profitable work on the table.

Online booking has also become close to an expectation rather than a nice-to-have, particularly for MOTs and routine servicing. A site that only offers a phone number during opening hours loses the entire evening and weekend slice of customers who'd rather book in two minutes than wait to call.

What tends to work here

MOT and standard servicing prices shown clearly
Online booking available, not just a phone number
Diagnostics and repair explained as a distinct, trust-led service
Courtesy car or drop-off and collection mentioned if you offer it
Recent reviews shown, not just claimed
Coverage area named by town, not just "Kent"

Who this is for

The Kent garage businesses I build for

MOT & servicing garages

Standardised, price-comparable work booked in minutes. A clear price and a working online booking form matter more here than almost anything else on the site.

Diagnostics & repair specialists

Harder-to-price, trust-led work where an honest diagnosis matters more than being the cheapest. Reviews and a clear explanation of process do the persuading.

Tyre, exhaust & fast-fit centres

Walk-in and same-day work, usually decided on price and immediate availability. Speed to contact and stock or pricing clarity beat design polish every time.

What to fix

What a driver cannot find on most garage sites

No MOT or servicing price shown

This is one of the most directly price-comparable services in any trade, and a site that makes a customer phone to find out loses them to whoever just published the number.

No online booking, phone only

A large share of MOT and servicing customers would rather book in two minutes online than call during working hours. A phone-only site loses that entire group by default.

Diagnostic work isn't explained

Without some explanation of how a diagnosis works, a nervous customer defaults to assuming the worst about being upsold, and picks a garage that at least explains its process.

No mention of a courtesy car or collection

For customers without a second car, this is often the deciding factor between two otherwise similar garages, and it's routinely left off the page entirely.

Questions

Mechanics & Garages web design questions

Do you build sites for garages outside Medway, like in Ashford or Sittingbourne?+

Yes. I'm based in Gillingham but build across Kent, and the site names the towns you actually cover so Google can match you to searches from each of them.

Can the site take online bookings, not just show a phone number?+

Yes, and for MOT and servicing work I'd actively recommend it. A large share of customers now expect to book in a couple of minutes without calling.

Should I show MOT prices if they can vary?+

Yes, even a standard rate with "from" in front of it. This is one of the most price-comparable services a customer will ever shop for, and hiding the number just loses the comparison.

I do more diagnostic and repair work than MOTs, does the site still work for me?+

Yes, it would just lean differently: more on explaining your process and showing reviews, less on a comparable headline price. I build to whichever mix of work you actually do.

How is this different from a generic web design agency?+

I build around what actually wins a garage's business: transparent pricing for the comparable jobs, and trust-building for the ones that aren't. A generic agency usually treats a garage's site like any other trade's.
