Why a plumbing website gets judged in the first ten seconds
Most people looking for a plumber are not browsing. They have water somewhere it shouldn't be, or a boiler that's stopped, and they are searching from a phone with three or four tabs open at once. Whoever answers first, looks credible fastest, and makes the number obvious usually gets the call, regardless of who does the better work.
That changes what the site actually needs to do. A photography-led homepage that takes four seconds to load and buries the phone number under a hero video loses to a plain page that shows a click-to-call button, a Gas Safe registration number, and a handful of recent reviews above the fold.
The other half of the job is the quieter side of the trade: bathroom refits, boiler installs, landlord compliance work. Those enquiries are booked days or weeks out, not in the next ten minutes, and they need a different kind of page entirely: a price guide, a gallery of finished bathrooms, and enough detail to be shortlisted before the phone even rings.
What tends to work here
What to fix
What I usually find missing on a plumber's site
No Gas Safe number on show
Plenty of plumbers are properly registered and never put the number anywhere a customer can see it. It's the single fastest piece of trust you can establish, and most sites waste it.
The phone number only appears in the footer
For an emergency search, scrolling to find contact details loses the enquiry to whoever put their number in the header. It takes minutes to fix and it's the most common fault I see.
No mention of after-hours cover
If you do take emergency calls out of hours, a site that reads like a 9-to-5 business is turning away exactly the enquiries you want most, and the ones that pay best.
A gallery with three photos from years ago
Bathroom and heating work sells on recent, real photography. An empty or stale gallery reads as a business that hasn't done a proper job in years, even when that's nowhere near true.

Questions
Plumbers & Heating Engineers web design questions
Do you build websites for plumbers outside Medway, like in Maidstone or Ashford?+
Yes. I'm based in Gillingham but build for plumbing and heating businesses right across Kent, and the site names the towns you actually cover so Google can match you to searches from each of them.
Can the site show my Gas Safe registration properly?+
Yes, and I'd push you to. A visible, verified registration number is one of the strongest trust signals a plumbing site can carry, and most competitors' sites don't bother.
I only take emergency calls, do I need a booking system?+
No. For reactive plumbing work a click-to-call button and a clear statement of your hours does more good than a booking form nobody will fill in mid-emergency.
Can you help me rank for specific towns, not just "plumber Kent"?+
Yes. That's mostly about the site naming your real coverage area by town, paired with a properly maintained Google Business Profile. I handle both.
How is this different from a generic web design agency?+
I build the site around how plumbing enquiries actually happen: urgent searches on a phone, decided in seconds. A generic agency will give you a beautiful homepage and bury the one thing that actually gets the phone to ring.
