Local coverage

Why Tonbridge businesses need more than a template

On the numbers this is the healthiest commercial patch in the county. Tonbridge and Malling has the highest proportion of high growth companies in Kent, 7.1 percent against a county average of 4.8, and the lowest business death rate at 8.1 percent.

The centre of gravity is Kings Hill. A purpose built business park with hundreds of companies, weighted heavily towards professional services, finance and technology, sitting a few miles from a commuter town with a castle and a working high street. Tonbridge itself runs on independents, trades and services for a well off population.

The practical consequence is that your website is often being judged by another business rather than a consumer. A buyer at Kings Hill reads your site the way they read a supplier's credentials: who are you, what have you done, can you handle my size, who do I ring. Pretty is largely irrelevant here. Credible and specific is everything.

Growing companies also outgrow their websites faster than anyone else. A site built when you had four staff stops working at fifteen, and the tell is always the same: a services page that no longer describes what you sell, and a team page three people out of date.

What tends to work here

A site you can update as the business changes
Real capability stated, not vague claims
Naming Kings Hill, West Malling and Aylesford
Case studies with actual numbers in them
Fast mobile pages, first looks are on phones
A structure that survives you doubling

Who this is for

The Tonbridge businesses I build for

B2B & Professional Services

Finance, consultancy, technology and legal firms in and around Kings Hill selling to other businesses. Your site is a credentials check before a meeting, so clarity, capability and named people beat styling every time.

Growing SMEs

Companies in the middle of scaling, usually with a site built for a much smaller version of themselves. The job is a structure that describes what you sell now and that you can change yourself when it changes again.

Independents & Local Services

Shops, salons, garages and trades serving Tonbridge, Hildenborough and the villages. Local search and a properly maintained Google listing do most of the heavy lifting, far more than the design itself does.

What to fix

What a Tonbridge site usually leaves out

Built for a smaller company

The most common fault in a borough full of growing firms. The services page still lists what you did three years ago, the team page has people who left, and nobody has the access or the time to go and fix it.

Vague about capability

Business buyers want to know your size, your process and whether you have done this before. Sites that talk about passion and partnership instead of specifics get filtered out before anyone picks up a phone.

No mention of Kings Hill

Plenty of local sites say Tonbridge and stop there. If you serve Kings Hill, West Malling, Aylesford or Hildenborough and the page never names them, you are simply invisible for those searches.

Nobody can update it

Common where a site was outsourced years ago. In a fast growing business, a website that needs a developer and a fortnight for every small change is a website that is permanently out of date.

Questions

Tonbridge web design questions

Do you actually work with Tonbridge businesses?+

Yes. I'm in Gillingham, around 40 minutes up the A228, and west Kent is a growing part of my work. Most of the process runs remotely, and I'll come over when a face to face genuinely helps.

Do you cover Kings Hill and West Malling?+

Yes, along with Hildenborough, Aylesford, Snodland and East Malling. Kings Hill in particular is a different sell to the town centre, and your site should reflect that rather than treating them as one market.

Our site was built when we were much smaller. Rebuild or patch?+

Usually rebuild, and usually it costs less than people expect. Patching a structure designed for a smaller business tends to cost more over two years than starting again properly once.

Will we be able to update it ourselves?+

Yes, and I'll walk you through it before handover. In a growing company, that is not a nice to have, it is the difference between a site that stays accurate and one that quietly goes stale.

What does a website cost?+

From £800, with a fixed quote before anything begins. No hourly billing and no surprises on the invoice at the end of it.
