Local coverage
A restaurant site is judged by how fast the menu appears
Someone looking at a restaurant or cafe's website has usually already decided to eat there, and is checking three things fast: what's on the menu, whether it's open right now, and how to book or order. A homepage that leads with an atmospheric hero image and buries the menu three clicks deep loses that visitor to a faster competitor.
Photography does more selling here than almost any other trade on this site, but it has to be the right kind. A styled, professionally lit dish photographed once and never updated reads as stale the moment the menu changes, and a phone-shot photo of an actual busy Friday night often builds more trust than a polished but generic one.
Hours are read differently for hospitality than for almost any other business too. A trades customer forgives a business being shut on a Sunday; a hungry customer checking at 9pm on a Tuesday wants an unambiguous answer right now, ideally synced with the same hours shown on the Google Business Profile, not a static page nobody's updated since the last bank holiday.
What tends to work here
What to fix
What stops someone booking a table
The menu is a PDF, or missing entirely
A PDF loads slowly on mobile data and can't be read easily on a small screen. A visitor who can't quickly see what's on offer usually leaves rather than downloading a file.
Opening hours don't match Google
When the website and the Google Business Profile disagree, a hungry customer trusts neither, and often just picks somewhere else rather than risk a wasted trip.
No booking or ordering link, just a phone number
Plenty of customers, especially younger ones, would rather book or order online than call. A phone-only site loses that entire group by default.
Stale or overly styled photography
Photos from a launch shoot years ago, or so polished they look like stock, both undersell a kitchen that's actually doing good, current work.

Questions
Restaurants & Cafes web design questions
Do you build sites for restaurants outside Medway, like in Canterbury or Whitstable?+
Yes. I'm based in Gillingham but build across Kent, and the site names the towns you actually cover so Google can match you to searches from each of them.
Can the site link to our existing booking or ordering system?+
Yes, I'd build around whatever you already use, whether that's a booking platform, a delivery partner, or your own direct ordering link, rather than replacing it.
Our menu changes seasonally, is that a problem?+
No, I'd build it so you can update it yourself without needing me involved every time a dish changes.
Should we still keep social media if the website's sorted?+
Yes, they do different jobs. Social media is where people discover you; the website is where they check hours, see the full menu and actually book. Both matter.
How is this different from a generic web design agency?+
I build around how a hungry customer actually decides in seconds: menu, hours, booking, in that order. A generic agency often leads with a big hero image and buries the parts that actually get the table booked.
